It is one of the largest lakes (3,102 m) in Coimbatore located around 10 km from Coimbatore. The place is a very famous picnic spot among the tourists as well as the locals as more than 110 species of birds visit this lake during winter. Recently, it has been cleaned of sewage deposits and garbage.

By Air: from Coimbatore international airport it is hardly 6km in distance, so you can hire auto.
By Road : Regular  buses are available from singanullar bus stand which is 11 km from the beach.
By Train: Nearest railway station is Singanallur junction and auto fare is about Rs. 50- Rs. 60 approx.

Sulur Big Lake

Sulur lake is located 19 km from Coimbatore. It is famous for its boating. Wind surfing, Canoeing & Kayaking are part of the adventure sports on Sulur lake. Many species of birds visit this beach during winter.

By Air: The nearest Airport is at Peelamedu, which is 16km from Sulur.

Valankulam lake

Valankulam beach is located about 5km from Coimbatore city. Valankulam is the main arterial tank that recharges the ground water of a sizeable area of the city. It is known for its picnic spots and birds species visiting the lake. Little grebes and Purple Moorhen can be seen in this lake.

Kodaikanal Lake

Kodaikanal Lake is also referred as Kodai Lake located about 174 km from Coimbatore. Kodai lake is a man-made lake. The lake is star-shaped with the service of boat club and boat service for tourists. Boat pageant and flower shows are crowd puller in summer season. The beautiful flora and fauna makes this place worth visit.

By Road: Kodai Lake is well connected by road with regular bus services operating to Coimbatore.
By Train: Kodai railway station is about 80 km the lake.

Ooty lake

Ooty lake is an artificial lake located at a distance of 84 km from Coimbatore city. One of the major attraction here are the boating facilities offered by the Boat house. The lake is surrounded by Eucalyptus trees, boat pageantry and boat races are organized in summer.

By Air: The nearest airport is Coimbatore Airport which is 91 km from ooty. Cabs can be hired at Rs. 1300-Rs. 2000.
By Road: There are regular bus services. State owned and private vehicles ply on this route.
By Train: No direct train between Coimbatore and Ooty is available. Best route is to take Nilagiri Exp from Coimbatore to Mettupalayam and then take a taxi from Mettupalayam to Ooty.

Coimbatore Big Lake (Periya Kulam)

Kurichi lake

Kurichi lake is located about 7 km from the Coimbatore city on the way of Pollachi. Kurichi lake enhances the ground water level of the area, cleans the water. Kurichi lake receives water from the Noyyal River. Kurichi lake is excellent habitat for birds and many bird watchers and researchers visit this place. About 50-70% of birds found in Coimbatore Wetlands this live in this wetland. Few temples near this lake are Pongaaliamman temple, Valleswarar temple and Aravaan temple.
