The nearest airport to the Nilgiris is in Coimbatore, 105 km from Ooty. Private taxi services and buses ply regularly.
Major attraction of this place is the toy train, that is, the Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) that connects Ooty with Mettupalayam and Coonoor.

Perur or Patteeswarar TempleThis beautiful temple was built during the reign of Raja Raja Chola. It is believed that the idol emerged on its own, that is, it is a 'Swayambhu lingam'. The idol of Patteeswarar or Lord Shiva along with his consort Parvati or Pachainavaki and a golden statue of 'Nataraja' adorns the temple.

Kovai KondattamThis is a theme park in Coimbatore and a nice place to spend your time with family and friends. There are many water games and adventurous activities such as rock climbing, wave pool, water dance and rock climbing. You may witness a few birthday parties and get together or product launches too! Anamalai Wildlife SanctuaryIf you love to be in the company of animals, feed them and study their behaviour, this is just the place to be! There is wild bear, porcupine, flying squirrel, deer, jackal, sloth bear etc. in this sanctuary, about 65 kms from Coimbatore.It was renamed Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary in 1987.
Thirumoorthy TempleOn the foot hills of Thirumoorthy hills lies this holy shrine with waterfalls all around and a peaceful ambiance. Panjalinga waterfalls is situated 3 kms. after climbing over the hills.
The temple is 20 kms. from Udumalaipettai (on Highway from Palani to Coimbatore). You can take a bus from Udumalpet and reach here.

Avanashi or Avanashilingeswarar TempleThis temple was built by the Cholas in the 12th century. It is about 40 kms. from Coimbatore. Located 83 kms. from Coimbatore, Bannari is a small town and is famous for Mariamman temple.
Siruvani WaterfallsTravelling 35 kms. west of Coimbatore, you will come across a dam and waterfall with its natural gushing sound which will be like music to your ears. From here, you can make a short trip to Anaimalai Hills range, Palar river, Sholiyar, Aliyar, and Parambikulam too. Water is supplied to Coimbatore from this dam. It is 37 kms. from Coimbatore and is a famous picnic spot.
